About Us & Contact Info
McCarthy & Affiliates was formed in 1995 as J. Allan McCarthy published his first book on change and transition, The Transition Equation: A Proven Strategy for Organizational Change, 1995, The Free Press. This book was the culmination of wisdom and learning from clients in over 200 company engagements across 15 industries.
Many of these clients had situations that were virtually unrecoverable: late to market with a product or service (missed the window of opportunity), soaring SG&A with out-of-control overhead, a very skilled workforce but lacking competencies needed to push into new markets while facing increased competition, a misaligned executive team that was carved up into fiefdoms and stakeholders that were "CEO hunting" based on misperceptions about company strategy and focus.

In most cases remedies that had been deployed (or needed to be deployed) included major reorganizations, leadership changes, and significant employee turnover and/or reductions.
As consultants engaged in these painful actions, we always believed that there had to be a better, proactive way to address organizational dynamics, so that companies could grow and remain vibrant and effective over time--and not get stuck in a "downward performance spiral". Recognizing and replicating the patterns of high-performance corporations is the basis of our work and the heart of the latest book on this topic, Beyond Genius, Innovation & Luck: The "Rocket Science" of Building High-Performance Corporations, J. Allan McCarthy, 4th Edition Publishing, 2011.
We believe that leading a business is "rocket science".
Sincerely,
Allan McCarthy
